A story Chapter 1 Sergeant Julle threw himself flat in the shelter of a crater, hearing the nine brethren of his squad do the same an instant later. Death Ray-fire seared the air mere inches above his head and raised small clouds of dust as it impacted on the shattered concrete crater edge. Julle`s tactical display, superimposed over the screen in the droids cockpit demanded his attention with a blinking icon. New Orders. The squad was to redeploy three kilometres to the south to relieve an GoDA platoon that had been flanked and was now pinned in a deadly crossfire amongst the ruins of the warehouse district. The sergeant communicated the new objective to his squad and waved them one at a time over the crater rim and across the street to the shelter of a burnt out prototype Evolved V4. In the scant seconds Julle was out in the open and exposed to enemy fire, he took the scene ahead. The horizon was an inferno against which the great manufactories of the south west of the world stood in stark silhouette . He knew that the route was the favourite hunting ground of the UD warriors` snipers and ambush units. Julle and his squad were now moving parallel to the front lines, tracing the shifting no man's land. The squad moved with the strength of purpose of Elites of MDE.com. They made use of available cover, but would not scuttle and cower like the lesser GoDA guardsmen whose failing war the MDE`s came to settle. The South west was too important to fall into the hands of the rebel's UD warriors, and Julle had vowed not to waste a single drop of MDE hydraulics reclaiming this part of the world for it's weak lordlings; if any hydraulics were to be split, it would be in the name of the Emperor, keymer13 and the righteous MDE.com. Less than a kilometre away from the objective, a single shot rang out as the squad crossed five metres of open ground. Brother Cyan had been hit in the weakest part of the droid, the black box. Julle and his brothers leapt for cover , anger rising in the sergeant's throat as he realised that the aim of the shot was no coincidence; the sniper had deliberately and maliciously destroyed the black box of Cyan droid and caused an almost instant kill, Julle was relying on Cyan's black box because Cyan had received data from the tests of the prototype Evolved V4 and without it the test and destruction of the Evolved V4 would have been in vain. Replaying the last few seconds of footage from his black box, Julle caught the briefest muzzle flare amidst the shadows of a blasted fourth story window in a building just ahead. He knew that the UD assassin would move immediately after making the kill, not wishing to attract return fire by risking a second shot from the same location. Julle ordered his squad forward; they would cut off the sniper's escape rout at the base of the building before he had time to set up for another shot. Racing down a side ally, the squad came to a dead end. Julle had no time to breach the wall with mines, and instead carried on with his droid, piloting himself through the rockrete wall with the strength possessed only of an MDE. As the wall disintegrated , he crashed on through and took in the scene before him: the sniper had obviously hoped to draw the squad into an ambush, but had not counted on them taking the route that they had. Five metres before Julle stood a ragged mob of UD’s, death rays covering the street outside - the street Julle and his squad would have taken in pursuit of the assassin had they not chosen the more direct approach. Julle dropped to one knee, swinging out his Custom death ray has he did so. His brother MDE’s appeared behind him as he pulled the trigger, and six blasterkings fired at the exact instant as his pistol filled the room with its Death ray fuelled glare. The UD’s simply disintegrated in a red haze that lingered in the air and coated the walls with a damp, scarlet patina. “Sergeant Julle?” A voice called out on the comm. located in a barricaded ruin further down the street. “ Thank the Emperor you’re here.” Julle and his squad worked their way carefully towards the GoDA position, scanning the surrounding buildings for signs of more enemy snipers. As they reached the barricade, a young lieutenant stepped forward, his awe at the sight of the MDE’s competing with his relief at their presence. “I'm lieutenant Gryff of the GoDA. These are my charges.” Gryff indicated a group of inexperienced dragonflies as he stepped out of the cockpit of his stalker. Each dragonfly wore on it the symbol of GoDA by which a billion pilots have lived and died. Julle stepped out of his cockpit and spat on the dusty ground before the quivering lieutenant. “Brother Cyan did not give his life to a coward’s bullet to save these... abomination.” The sergeants face contorted in hatred as he regarded the scruffy low-level troopers. “They are no better than the scum UD warriors.” Returning to his cockpit, an addressing his squad. “Brothers, we are leaving” Chapter 2 As Julle and his squad left lieutenant Gryff to ponder, they set out heading back to MDE.com command through the treacherous jungle of stasye. Julle carefully scanned the moonlit trees before his squad, the muzzle of his minigun Ml following the movement of his eyes. Every part of his droid was attuned to the rhythm of the forest, alert for something out of place. Nothing disturbed the quiet save of the ordinary sounds of animal life he had come to expect. Had any of their enemies been near by, the native creates would have fled, or given some other warnings of their presence. Satisfied, he lowered the minigun and signalled to his squad that all was well. Julle returned the minigun to it’s hatch, soundlessly rising he crept forwards, each step carefully placed as he advanced through the trees. The squad moved like ghosts as they worked their way forwards, in the hue the squad was almost invisible. Julle stalked silently towards a wide-trunked vine tree. Sergeant Julle’s squad advanced at a tortuously slow pace through the dense, insect-ridden forest undergrowth. Why a regiment founded on the arid mining part of the world would be posted here, the sergeant didn't dare to ponder; far be it for the non-commissioned ranks to fathom the workings of the great emperor keymer13. From further down the trail came a sudden outburst of angry shouts, soon turning to terrified screams. Julle order his squad forward, hearing the rest of the platoon on either side charging headlong towards the sound of battle The last scream died as Julle and his squad broke through the line of bushes into a wide, sunbathed clearing. The entire squad came to a shocked halt as the guardsmen took in the scene before them. Strewn about the ground were the remains of the droids of the UD warriors. Crouched over each body was a tall, savage droid, and they seemed to be ... Someone ran out of his droid and vomited. Julle levelled his death ray at the nearest droid and his squad followed with his unspoken order, nine death rays each acquired a target. The nearest droid turned it's oil-flecked face towards the sergeant , fixing its predatory gaze on him fro what seemed to be an age. Finally it issued a long, sibilant hiss that shrieked over the comm. and it seamed to be in a code, but even in code it could only be considered a warning. Julle stumbled back, his squad raising their weapons... “Hold Your fire!” The Captain came striding into the clearing , his squad spreading out and forcing the horrified guardsmen to lower their weapons. “They’re on our side!” Chapter 3 As the great commander X-ecutioner greeted the savage droids that he called “Toko” he left the rest of his squad restraining Julle’s squad and moved forward. He moved swiftly almost like he wanted the attentions of the Toko and as he did so, Julle recognised but didn’t quite remember were he had heard the name “Toko” from, then the commander X (for short) left his cockpit and issued and order to his squad, it seemed to be in the same code as when the Toko hissed at him, so secretly Julle contacted his translator Archernar, Archernar was a very talented translator he could speak most languages but even with his expertise he could not translate even a single word but strangely enough commander X could speak in code fluently, Julle just dismissed the incident and told his squad to move out but as the huge masses of the droids move X turned and issued a strange order to Julle, Julle and three of her squad mates were to accompany the Toko in their attempt to take out a local enemy base so Julle agreed. Julle watched the savage droids of the Toko as they carefully scanned the surroundings, the scanned in an old fashioned way, tree bye tree in an almost inaccurate way, the Toko didn’t seem to have a modern scanner or any scanner but they used their droids vision which seemed to Julle inaccurate. Julle order his squad through the comm. to check for signs of activity and as they did they came across 5 bottled bones. Julle watched as the Toko got into position, as they hid themselves very cleverly in the moonlit trees. The five bottled bones moved like feathers in the wind as they worked their way through the trees swiftly. Julle saw a once allied friend, Nukehead. Nukehead stalked silently towards a wide shadowy tree. Then all hell broke lose. Written by X-ecutioner |
